Career Burnout Coaching
My practice is geared at helping high performing women who are hard on themselves heal burnout, find peace and develop meaningful lives they are proud of. To do so, we’ll grapple with the big, messy questions life throws our way.
What is it?
For a long time, I marketed myself as a career coach. Over time, I kept seeing the same problem over and over again. I tended to attract two slightly different types of clients - high performing women who kept thinking the solution to their restlessness and lack of fulfillment was a new job, or in other words, accomplishment junkies. Or high performing women who were totally exhausted trying to keep every plate spinning in the air and make everyone happy, or in other words, validation junkies.
Interestingly, the root cause of both problems is the same. When we confuse our self-worth with how much other people like us or with how many accomplishments we rack up, we’re setting ourselves up for burnout. Because the truth of the matter is no matter how many accomplishments you rack up, it will never be enough. Trust me on this one. And no matter how many people like you, it will never feel good enough.
Career burnout coaching is a fusion of career coaching, life coaching, spiritual coaching, emotional healing and time management and mindfulness techniques that is specifically geared at helping you cure the root cause of what’s keeping you feeling empty and unfulfilled or spinning out of control. I’ve carefully honed my methodology over the years to address the root causes of burnout, rather than try to slap a band-aid on the problem.
How it works
My approach to burnout coaching is unique in that I approach it from a deep, holistic level versus a surface level. We will look at everything. Why you are the way you are, how you give away your power and what does your heart really ache for. Questions like, What would you do if you didn’t have to prove yourself? What does stepping into your power really look like? Are you living to your full potential? What brings you joy? How can you best serve?
Surface level coaching doesn’t work in my experience when the underlying cause of the problem is burnout. For example, switching to a new job won’t solve any problems if underlying issues such lack of boundaries, lack of confidence, failure to advocate for oneself or workaholic tendencies aren’t solved. Remember the adage – wherever you go, there you are? These unsolved root causes will chase you throughout your career and leave you feeling miserable. As part of this coaching experience we solve the real underlying issues causing the burnout, setting you up for success not just in your next job, but in every job you have.
My career burnout coaching process goes deep, and clients typically report 3 benefits
Clarity
There’s a lot of noise out there about what you should do and who you should be. And that’s all very well intended, but it can be overwhelming. What does your soul ache for? What are you afraid to try? How are you currently holding yourself back? What are your innate superpowers and how would you describe your personal brand? We all have a narrative, the key is to learn yours, own it proudly and lead with it.
Confidence
When we aren’t grounded in our strengths, we tend to focus on our weaknesses, and we forget how powerful we are. As women we often give our power away – by not sharing our voice in a meeting, by not asking for the promotion or the pay raise. We often fall into learned patterns of pleasing because it’s what we’ve been taught to do. We say yes when we want to say no. But we can unlearn these things and coaching is a powerful vehicle that can help.
Compassion for Self
Life is a whole lot more joyful when you can offer yourself the incredible gift of compassion. Not to be confused with letting yourself off the hook, or rationalizing poor performance – compassion is your birthright, it’s linked to your worthiness as a human being and has nothing to do with how much money you make, what house you live in and where you sit on an organizational chart. It’s often the hardest thing for high performing women to tap into, because it’s been drilled into us that we need to be perfect.
